From Dark to Light - New Beginnings Take Flight
We take fabrics from the ashes and they are reborn into new creations ready for a whole new lease of slow fashion life
The Team at Ostara Rose are working towards being fully sustainable in all areas of our business
The name Ostara is inspired by the pagan holidays, which are depicted by spring and the changing season, symbolising new beginnings, rebirth, and renewal in harmony with nature and its cycles. The equinox represents a point of perfect balance on the journey through the wheel of the year. Day and Night are of equal length and in perfect equilibrium- dark and light, masculine and feminine, inner and outer, in balance.
The current collection is inspired by icons and artists such as Salvador Dali, Jane Birkin, Jean Shrimpton, Audrey Hepburn, Jacequiline Bisset and many more.
Design aspects incorporate a seventies luxe disco aura embalmed within rich jewel surreal colours and diverse textures, ranging from sumptuous remnant velvet swaths to linen type Ramie fabrics, made sustainably from nettles. A whole variety of different eco friendly methods of production are being trialed including our current love eco printing and eco dyeing. We are experimenting will dyeing flowers and plants from the local woodland. The collection is imbued with the wild energy oozing from the Celtic coast nearby which continue’s to inspire new thoughts and provide inspiration.
Natasha is constantly searching for new inspirations at home and when travelling to distant lands. She searches for fabric innovations and new processes of fashion sustainability. So far we have managed to enact many positive steps outlined further in our sustainability page.
The collection is a collaboration between Natasha Rose and her talented mother Lynnet, who is an incredibly talented seamstress.
Natasha holds a first-class honours degree in Environmental Conservation Science, Her Thesis testing ways to extend the life of fast fashion garments.
Additionally, she holds a degree in Fashion Design and has long history of working within high-end fashion in London as a Former Creative Director (alongside Andrea Abraham) in the fashion start-up Fashion Mode, which supported upcoming British designers on their fashion journey from Premiere Vision through to London Fashion Week.
Ostara Rose’s ethos aims to support climate change and a zero waste, low carbon future for the fashion industry. We strive towards a fully circular model in all aspects of the business. We aim with each pattern to minimise waste by reorganising fabrics at the pattern cutting stage, but there is inevitably some waste fabric.
Holey Scrap is Ostara Rose’s Zero Waste Initiative set up to try and utilise every last piece of scrap matetial. Our bundles can be used for many art and craft projects which inspire creativity. Please get in contact if you know of any projects that might benefit from receiving one of our bundles!.
This is an example of a circular economy and helps to make Ostara Rose just a little bit more sustainable. Check out Holey Scrap
